Poem: 'Glass' by Heather Dawson

Glass
Put me under glass
Like a fairy tale princess
An actor in a snow scene
A saint on display in a dusty cathedral
A cake in the coffee shop
Waiting to come alive
For true love to kiss me
For someone to shake me
Kneel before me and ask for a miracle
Lift off my crystal cage. draw me out. enjoy my sugar taste

I'll lay here still until then
Quiet ... nearly dead
Not an eyelash flutter
Nor breath expelled
Nor rise and fall of my breast

In my head a symphony of dreams
a Thurber play of motion a cascade of flowers and rivers and snow

Keep me under my glass dome until you are ready to pull me towards the sun
